Medical Assisting Specialist Program

The 12-week Medical Assisting Specialist Program at Boardman Training Center (BTC) is designed to prepare students for a career as medical assistants in the Youngstown, New Castle, and Boardman areas. The program covers a wide range of topics, including basics in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, patient identification, and infection control.

EKG Program

Those looking to acquire healthcare certifications* should consider this program. Students receive an introduction to an electrocardiograph (EKG) machine and heart monitors, and an understanding of EKG results. Skills acquired include identifying basic normal EKG waveform morphology, describing the normal physiology of cardiac conduction, distinguishing among basic dysrhythmias, and describing the distinguishing features and associated treatments for each.

Phlebotomy Program

Students who are part of this Boardman career school program receive an introduction to the use of specimen collection equipment, collection procedures, and skin puncture techniques, and acceptable standards of work in the industry. Basics in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, patient identification, infection control, universal precautions, safety, best practices in healthcare, and the development of basic phlebotomy skills are covered.

Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Program

The 12-week Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Program, now offered online at Boardman Training Center, is designed to prepare students for careers in medical billing and coding in the Youngstown, New Castle, and Boardman areas. The program covers a wide range of topics, including knowledge of the compliance requirements for the medical billing audit process, a basic understanding of the coding system, and both inpatient and outpatient coding to the ICD-10 standards. Students will also be trained in medical claims fraud and abuse.
