As the 2023 school year quickly approaches, Boardman Training Center brings students our favorite back-to-school tips to help every student be successful in their education!
Read on to learn our top ten tips to help set yourself up for success in school!
Tip #1: Keep A Separate Study Space
Studying at home has many benefits, but it can be easy to get distracted by things in your everyday life. A simple solution is to have a designated study space in your home where you can focus on your schoolwork. Keeping a tidy area in your home can help you eliminate at-home distractions and retain information.
Tip #2: Don’t Procrastinate
Procrastination can happen easily, especially when an assignment is challenging. Procrastinating can cause unnecessary stress, which can lead to not being the most efficient in studying or doing the work. To avoid procrastination, make sure you begin an assignment early to give yourself plenty of time to ask questions if you need help before the deadline.
Tip #3: Find Your Learning Style
Did you know that there are three different types of learning styles? Many students do not realize this and may study inefficiently for their needs. An online assessment to discover what kind of learning style best suits you can help you develop better study tactics to help you be an effective student.
Tip #4: Go To Class
This tip may seem like a no-brainer, but the best way to learn is during class! Attending class is the best way to learn, connect with your classmates and instructors, and have the opportunity to ask questions in the moment rather than playing catch-up if you miss class.
Tip #5: Stay Organized
Before entering classes, you’ll want to have a plan for organizing your homework, assignments, important dates, tests, and other aspects of your education. Personal planners or electronic calendars are excellent ways to track everything you need to do for school and when!
Tip #6: Create A Study Group
Getting together with your classmates to form a study group can not only help you feel more prepared for tests and other assignments but also help you create lasting relationships with your colleagues. In addition, studying with your classmates can help you retain information and talk through problems as a group.
Tip #7: Get Support When You Need It
School can be challenging, and developing a solid support system in your personal and academic lives is important. In your academic life, developing relationships with your classmates and instructors can help you get support with schoolwork and build your professional network. In your personal life, find people who support your educational goals and help lift you up when you feel down.
Tip #8: Prioritize Your Sleep
According to the CDC, students who get the proper sleep at night can be more academically successful and focused. Movies and TV shows may have normalized the all-nighter, but they are not necessary to be a successful student. You can balance schoolwork with a steady sleep schedule by planning your time efficiently. Your mind will thank you!
Tip #9: Find A Positive Outlet
School can bring on stress for any student, and finding ways to relieve that stress is crucial. Doing things to clear your mind, like taking a walk, exercising, reading, journaling, and other self-care activities, are great ways to relax and recharge your mind.
Tip #10: Think About The Big Picture
There may be times during your education when you may feel overwhelmed and want to give up. During these times, it can be helpful to consider why you decided to continue your education. This reason is different for every student, and whether your goal is to land your dream job or provide for your family, think about how great your future will be once you’ve completed your education.
