Meet Amanda Huff, our featured graduate of the month at Boardman Training Center!
Amanda is a Boardman Training Center graduate of the Cardio/Phlebotomy and Medical Office Specialist programs. By completing these programs, Amanda gained valuable skills, including electrocardiograms (EKGs), blood draws, venipuncture, and administrative tasks that set her up for a healthcare career.
While at Boardman Training Center, Amanda learned the material she needed for her career by attending evening classes. Having evening classes allowed her to still able to work in her position as a caregiver. At BTC, we understand that many students lead busy lives, so we ensure that our students can balance family, work, and education. Students can attend school according to their schedule by offering day or evening classes. By providing the option of day or evening classes, students can attend school according to their schedule.
Why choose BTC?
As a student in the Cardio/Phlebotomy program, Amanda had the option to sit for two National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification exams, the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)* and the Certified EKG Technician (CET)* exam.
By extending her education to Medical Office Specialist, Amanda can learn fundamental patient care and administration skills, including recording vital signs, charting, basic wound care, patient intake, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) compliance, insurance processing, and more. She was also prepared to sit for several NHA Certification* exams. The combination of these programs allows Amanda to be a well-rounded healthcare team member.
Through her training at BTC, Amanda was able to complete her courses, gain hands-on experience, and pass her certification exams. Amanda now has several certifications under her belt, including Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)*, Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)*, Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)*, and Certified EKG Technician (CET)*, which makes her a valuable asset to employers.
Huff’s Experience at BTC
Before attending Boardman Training Center, Amanda was enrolled at a different college. She ultimately decided to leave because she wanted to take more classes directly related to her degree. She would recommend BTC to a friend because each student can get an education without taking prerequisite classes. One of the benefits of attending the Boardman Training Center is that our courses can be completed in a matter of weeks rather than spending months or years at a traditional school.
At Boardman Training Center, we see the value in personalized instruction, which was Amanda’s favorite part of attending BTC. She says the smaller class sizes and one-on-one help from instructors are the parts she enjoyed the most. With the help of our Boardman Training Center faculty and staff, you will have access to student resources, including personal and academic support, tutoring, resume assistance, and more.
When asked about her favorite class throughout her educational journey, she says, Medical Assisting with Jennifer Fellows because she’s always been interested in learning about the medical field.
As a recent Boardman Training Center graduate, Amanda knew she had options regarding her future career. She says her ideal job would be to become a Medical Assistant in a school, working a veterinarian’s office, or continue her education to become a dialysis nurse.
Upon being named the featured graduate of the month, Amanda has also accepted a position with us as an instructor in the Medical Office Specialist program. We are excited to have her be part of the BTC family!
