Meet Amy Patton, BTC’s Featured Student of the Month!
Boardman Training Center (BTC) is excited to introduce our featured graduate of the month, Amy Patton! As a BTC Phlebotomy program graduate, Amy learned not only technical skills but also soft skills that will guide her toward her dream career. Keep reading this blog to discover Amy’s experience at BTC and how our healthcare training programs can help you further your career!
Amy’s Career Journey
Prior to attending Boardman Training Center to further her knowledge of healthcare, Amy worked as a correctional officer at State Correctional Institute – Mercer in Pennsylvania. However, before working in corrections, she spent 15 years working as a Certified Nurses Aide (CNA) in the area. Choosing to return to the healthcare field, she decided that BTC’s Phlebotomy program would be an excellent opportunity to refresh her skills and knowledge in order to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)’s Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification* exam.
With over a decade of healthcare experience, Amy came into Boardman Training Center with much of the foundational knowledge she needed to further her career and earn certification*. Because of this, one aspect of her schooling that she enjoyed was helping her classmates throughout the program. “My favorite part was applying my knowledge that I already had and helping my fellow students get through the class,” she said.
In fact, Amy’s experience at BTC has helped to mold her career aspirations. “BTC has helped me become more patient and helpful to others as they are starting into their healthcare careers,” she said. Amy’s dream job is to become a teacher, helping lead students as they embark on their healthcare path.
Boardman Training Center has provided Amy with the skills and tools necessary for long-term success. With the training she received, she will be able to work in healthcare or take an educational route and help train the next generation of healthcare professionals. In five years, Amy’s primary goal is to be successful wherever her career path takes her, whether it be pursuing a further healthcare career or teaching others.
The BTC Experience
Two of BTC’s most significant benefits are its hands-on training and smaller class sizes. Amy appreciated that clinical hours were integrated directly into the program, so every student had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and ask questions as they progressed. “The classes were a lot more one-on-one, and I could ask questions without judgment,” said Amy.
Boardman Training Center’s programs are designed to help students succeed both inside the classroom and in their personal lives. With academic, personal, and career advising, the BTC team is here to support students throughout their time at the school and equip them with the resources and tools to succeed after graduation. BTC prides itself on creating a positive learning environment where students can focus on gaining skills, making connections, and preparing for their future.

When asked if she would recommend BTC, Amy says she definitely would. From hands-on training, smaller class sizes, and student support, each student at BTC is part of a tight-knit community of students, instructors, and staff who want you to succeed. She says the most rewarding part of her experience at BTC was “Meeting a new variety of people that I could call friends.”
