Boardman Training Center’s Featured Student Of The Month, Kerrigan Reed!
Boardman Training Center is excited to introduce our featured student of the month, Kerrigan Reed!
Kerrigan is a graduate of BTC’s Cardio Phlebotomy and medical office programs, where she is learning valuable hands-on skills that she can apply to her future career in the medical field.
Before attending the Boardman Training Center, Kerrigan was attending high school and doing research on phlebotomy programs that she could attend after graduation. In a class called “Exploring majors and careers,” she discovered BTC’s Phlebotomy Technician program and liked the idea of not attending school for many years. “I saw it as more opportunity, and I wouldn’t have to do 4+ years of college,” she said.
What She Will Learn At BTC
During her time as a BTC Cardio Phlebotomy and medical office student, Kerrigan developed many marketable skills that will make her a valuable asset in medical offices, hospitals, laboratories, and other medical facilities. Through hands-on training in small classroom settings, she has learned how to:
- Perform EKGs,
- Perform blood draws,
- Venipuncture,
- Manage infections,
- Perform administrative tasks
- Maintain proper equipment use and more.
Additionally, incorporated into the curriculum at Boardman Training Center is preparation for National Healthcareer Association certification* exams, including the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) and Certified EKG Technician (CET) exams. BTC faculty and staff and proud of Kerrigan, as she sat and passed the Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification exam!
Why Choose Boardman Training Center?
The support Kerrigan received at Boardman Training Center is what sets our education model apart from other training schools. When asked about her favorite part of attending BTC, she says that it is her classmates and teachers. “Everyone is so supportive and makes class fun, but still learning things,” she said.
Instructors at Boardman Training Center provide students with one-on-one support in small class sizes, which allows students to receive personalized help with their learning. Kerrigan’s favorite instructor was Missy because she helps students if they struggle with any material. “She makes class fun too, so we aren’t just bored.”
Additionally, Boardman Training Center’s healthcare training programs are accelerated, making them a great option for students who want to enter healthcare and begin their careers quickly. If you are like Kerrigan and want a program that does not require you to spend years in college, BTC could be a great place for you.
How Boardman Training Center Sets You Up For Future Success
With her Boardman Training Center education complete, Kerrigan has become employable with skills, knowledge, and certification that make her a valuable asset to a medical team. Kerrigan graduated on August 25th; her goal is to work as a phlebotomist in a hospital, possibly working with children. In five years, she hopes her training at BTC will provide her with stability, allowing her to work at a job she loves and providing her the financial freedom to buy a new car and have her own place to live.
When asked if she would refer Boardman Training Center to a friend, she says, “Yes, I have many times. It’s a great opportunity and doesn’t take multiple years to complete.” Her biggest piece of advice for students who are considering attending BTC is to be prepared and have fun but pay attention. “It is a lot of work, but if you come to class and pay attention, then you won’t struggle,” she says.
