Mackenzie Fusco – Student Highlight

Say hello to Mackenzie Fusco, our student highlight feature for this week!

Mackenzie is currently enrolled in the Cardio Phlebotomy career training program here at Boardman Training Center. In this exciting program, Mackenzie will learn valuable skills, including performing EKGs, drawing blood, completing venipuncture procedures, and practicing fundamental patient care. Upon graduation from this fast-track program, Mackenzie will be prepared for an entry-level career in the healthcare field.

“I wanted a school that was smaller and local. A friend of mine referred BTC and loved their program,” said Mackenzie.

Before enrolling at Boardman Training Center, Mackenzie attended two other schools, earned an Associate Degree in Medical Assisting, and started her nursing prerequisites.

She was also a stay-at-home mom with a daughter who started kindergarten this year. Since her daughter would be in school, Mackenzie thought it would be the perfect time to go back to school.

While she had a good experience at her previous schools, Mackenzie was looking for something more hands-on that she could complete quicker. “I wanted more of a fast-paced program that was hands-on. I decided to enroll in the Cardio Phlebotomy program and am super excited.”

When asked what her favorite part of attending BTC is so far, Mackenzie said, “honestly, my classmates! We have become like family and are always there to support one another.”

Mackenzie has great things to say about the staff and instructors here at Boardman Training Center. “Nikki is definitely my support girl. She is very understanding and caring and is always there for me when I need her.”

After graduation, Mackenzie wants to start her career in the healthcare field. “I would love to work in any kind of doctor’s office, but preferably pediatrics.”

In addition to working in a doctor’s office, students who graduate from the Cardio Phlebotomy program have the opportunity to begin a healthcare career in medical facilities like hospitals, clinics, laboratories, long-term care facilities, and cancer centers.

When asked how she would like her life to be in five years, Mackenzie says she is looking for a stable and secure career. “I just want a steady job working in a doctor’s office Monday through Friday and being able to spend the weekends with my family.”

Mackenzie says that she would absolutely refer Boardman Training Center to a friend. “Yes, this has definitely been a learning experience that has improved my self-confidence. I believe anyone can succeed as long as they put forth the work and effort.”

In addition to learning valuable knowledge and practicing your skills with hands-on training, Cardio Phlebotomy students are prepared to sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Certified EKG Technician certification exams.
