Makenna Long – Graduate Highlight

Meet Makenna Long, BTC’s Featured Graduate of the Month!

Makenna Long is a graduate of Boardman Training Center’s (BTC) Medical Assisting Specialist program, and we are excited to share the story of her time as a student at BTC. Before coming to Boardman Training Center, Makenna worked as a medical secretary in a mental health counseling office. Through this position, she discovered that her dream career involved making a difference in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Makenna Long - Student Highlight

Choosing to pursue her medical assisting education at BTC was a simple decision for Makenna. She says that the smaller class sizes, flexible schedule, and program curriculum drew her to the program. As a student in our medical assisting training program, she gained a range of skills and knowledge that can be applied in her future career.

Some of the skills Makenna learned in her medical assisting courses include taking vitals, administering specific medical tests, providing basic wound care, and performing phlebotomy. Makenna says she enjoyed the phlebotomy portion of her training program the most, but she also appreciates that she was able to “learn a little bit of everything.”

Boardman Training Center’s Medical Assisting Training

Students in BTC’s Medical Assisting Specialist program benefit from a well-rounded curriculum that prepares them for healthcare careers in a matter of weeks, rather than months or years. Our 12-week program combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning to develop the necessary skills and confidence to work as a medical assistant.

Additionally, medical assisting students are prepared to sit for two National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification* exams: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA). Students like Makenna, who hold these credentials, have the opportunity to enter the healthcare field and begin their journey toward a dream career.

Makenna hopes that her medical assistant training will enable her to pursue a rewarding career within the medical field, where she can apply her hands-on skills to make a meaningful difference. Her plan after graduation is to secure a position where she can work with children and achieve financial stability. By combining her skills, knowledge, and certifications* from BTC, Makenna can now make her dream a reality.

The BTC Experience

One aspect of Boardman Training Center that appealed to Makenna is the smaller class sizes. At BTC, our community is like a family, and students aren’t just a number. Due to the smaller class sizes, instructors can form more personal connections with students, ensuring they learn in the most effective way possible.

When asked about her favorite parts of her time as a BTC student, Makenna says that making new friends with her classmates was the most rewarding part. BTC’s smaller class sizes also enable students to form lasting friendships that extend beyond the classroom.

When you are a Boardman Training Center student, everyone in the building, from the admissions team to the campus director to other students, is in your corner, cheering you on!

Additionally, BTC students benefit from the accelerated timeframe of our programs and the financial flexibility the school offers. With our 12-week programs in Phlebotomy, EKG, Medical Assisting Specialist, and Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, you can gain the necessary knowledge and skills and be prepared to sit for NHA certifications* without needing to take hefty student loans.

The BTC team works with each student individually to establish a personalized payment plan that enables them to further their education without incurring significant debt.

When asked if she would recommend Boardman Training Center for someone who wants to further their healthcare education, Makenna says yes, that BTC is a “good option for the length of the program.”
