Meet Martha DuBois Bolanos!
Martha DuBois Bolanos is Boardman Training Center’s (BTC) featured graduate of the month for April! She graduated from BTC’s Phlebotomy program at the end of 2024 and has since gotten her certification*. Due to the training she received at Boardman Training Center, she has been trained in the necessary skills to become a valuable healthcare team member.
In this blog, we’ll discuss Martha’s journey and her experience at BTC in the phlebotomy technician training program.
The Road to BTC
Before enrolling at Boardman Training Center (BTC), Martha had not pursued higher education. She had never been to college. She was working as a caregiver for the elderly when she decided to start her journey and enhance her skills and career prospects by attending BTC. Seeking a new direction, Martha decided to return to school to further her education.
Martha chose Boardman Training Center because “I wanted to go somewhere local and affordable.” Drawn to the medical field and with an interest in tattooing, she chose BTC’s Phlebotomy program because “I wanted to get into the medical field, but I am also interested in tattooing. So, I thought it was a good opportunity to get familiar with needles.”
Martha’s Phlebotomy Experience
When asked about her experience at Boardman Training Center, she said, “I’ve had an amazing experience and have enjoyed this program a lot!”
Martha’s favorite part about attending Boardman Training Center was “Learning new things and laughing with my peers.” Martha gained skills in areas such as basic phlebotomy, the different types of skin puncture techniques, how to use specimen collection equipment correctly, various procedures for specimen collection, and more.
When reflecting on her experience at Boardman Training Center (BTC), Martha shared that the most fulfilling aspect was “rediscovering my passion for learning new things and pushing myself to study and get good grades.” The combination of personalized instruction and flexible scheduling enabled Martha to learn at her own pace, reigniting her enthusiasm for education and empowering her to achieve academic success.
What’s Next?
As Martha moves on to the next phase of her life, she looks towards the future and all she wants to accomplish. Right now, she’d love to work in a children’s hospital. More specifically, she’d really enjoy working with and helping teenagers. In the coming years, she wants to work in a position that allows her to live comfortably and, hopefully, get married! Also, perhaps one day, she’d like to start her own business.
While Martha is passionate about working in healthcare, her dream job is to ultimately become a tattoo artist. She’s grateful to BTC because she said her time here has “Allowed me to become more confident in myself and my talents. It also helped me become comfortable with needles.”
