Nicole Habeger – Student Highlight

Meet Nicole Habeger, our student highlight feature for the week!

Nichole has worked in healthcare for many years and is attending the Cardio Phlebotomy program at Boardman Training Center. She chose this program because caring for others is important to her.

Before deciding to attend BTC and get on the fast track to an exciting new career, Nicole attended larger universities, but decided that they were not worth it for her. In high school, she also attended a local career and technical center, earning her STNA.

Nicole has many years of experience in the medical field, as she worked eight years at a retirement home and one year at a local hospital. Eventually, Nicole decided to try working in a different field, but she soon discovered that a career in healthcare is what’s right for her.

“I tried to get out of the medical field and very soon discovered it is what I need to do. I am a caretaker through and through,” said Nicole. She has little cousins and loves them like they are her own kids. She is always there for them and helps with anything they need.

“It seems like a great place. I fell in love with phlebotomy at the hospital and they offer it here,” said Nicole when asked why she choose Boardman Training Center to prepare for an exciting career in the healthcare field.

Nicole said her favorite part of attending Boardman Training Center is “the smaller classes and the personalities of all the instructors and directors. They truly care about everyone who walks through that door!”

When asked what her favorite class is so far at BTC, Nicole said that phlebotomy is her favorite because she loves drawing blood.

After graduation, Nicole wants to work as a phlebotomist or in a medical office so that she has the opportunity to help other people. With so many years of experience in healthcare, Nicole knows she has a lot of directions she can go in her future career, and she would like to pursue more positions in a lab setting.

Nicole would like her life to be comfortable and happy in five years. She would like to get married and start a family, and does not want to struggle living paycheck to paycheck.

Nicole said she would absolutely recommend Boardman Training Center to a friend! “I truly believe this is the best money I’ve ever spent. They set you up for success. They will do everything in their power to make sure everything is suitable for your needs. If there is anything they can do to make your life a little easier, stand back because they will all do their best to help,” said Nicole.

Now that she’s on her way to an exciting new career in healthcare, Nicole said she is very thankful that she was able to start the Cardio Phlebotomy program at BTC. She enjoys previous graduates coming into visit the teachers and giving pep talks to the classes.

When asked if she has any advice for others thinking of attending healthcare career training classes at BTC, Nicole said, “Nikki is persistent. If she sees something in you, she is not going to let you walk away easily. Just ask questions, because if you have questions, chances are that someone else does. Never be afraid to talk to your instructors. Don’t give up! They won’t let you anyway!”

After she completes her cardio phlebotomy classes, Nicole would like to enroll in the Medical Office Specialist career training program at Boardman Training Center to continue to advance her skills in the healthcare field.
