Payton Delgado – Student Highlight

Meet Payton Delgado, our student highlight feature for this week!

Payton started at Boardman Training Center in the Phlebotomy Technician program in February 2019 and decided to pursue the Cardio Phlebotomy program as well.

“Being here feels right, better than anything else,” said Payton. She loves the small class sizes and flexible schedule that BTC offers to students.

Before attending the fast track training classes at BTC, Payton went to a large university for exercise science but didn’t like it because most of her courses were online and not hands-on. She said it was hard to get into her classes because there was no actual professor teaching and she prefers learning in a hands-on environment.

Payton works in the food industry and knows she does not want to do that for the rest of her life. She has been working in it for a year and can tell that it’s not for her. She wants to do something that will allow her to make a difference.

In the process of deciding what to do next, Payton explored a few different options, but none of them felt right. She was looking for a training program that taught hands-on skills that she could actually use while on the job.

Then, Payton’s mom told her to check out Boardman Training Center because completing a healthcare training program would allow her to do something that is making a difference. Her mom was a true leader and pushed Payton because her mother knew she wanted a career.

Payton loves that BTC is local and that the classes are small. With evening classes, she can continue to work while attending school.

She says that because her classes are only three nights per week and the program is only 24 weeks to complete, she has a much easier time managing everything.

“I chose Cardio Phlebotomy because I like being behind the scenes, and learning about how the heart works interests me,” said Payton.

When asked what her favorite part of attending Boardman Training Center is, Payton said, “Everyone in my class is there for the same reason as me, and we all get along and help each other out.” Because of the small class sizes, she knows everyone and has built great relationships.

Payton said that Sandy is her favorite teacher at BTC because she does a great job explaining everything to her and other students.

Payton recommends Boardman Training Center to others and said that someone she works with has already spoken to Nikki Granger (BTC’s admissions advisor) about enrolling in classes.
