Educational Background

With a well-rounded, interdisciplinary academic journey, our Campus Director has studied at multiple institutions across various fields. His education includes music and dance education with a business cognate at the University of Akron, as well as secondary and special education at the University of Southern Indiana. He also studied music performance and composition at Youngstown State University and later focused on educational technology and curriculum design at Western Governors University.

In addition to traditional academic experiences, Stephen was also a student at Boardman Training Center, earning National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certifications* in EKG, phlebotomy, medical assisting, medical billing and coding, medical administration, and electronic health records. This combination of creative, educational, and healthcare training provides a unique perspective that benefits both students and staff.

Professional Experience

Stephen’s career spans multiple industries: “I served as a Band and Dance Director with Jefferson County Public Schools, a Dance Director with Youngstown City Schools, and a special education teacher at Potential Development School for Students with Autism, where I worked with middle school students.”

In the healthcare field, Stephen has gained extensive experience in a variety of roles, including medical assistant and phlebotomist at Sharon Regional Medical Center; billing and coding specialist at One Health Ohio; detox technician at Renewal, Inc.; and adjunct instructor at BTC. Through these diverse positions, he has developed a well-rounded perspective on both clinical care and healthcare operations. Reflecting on his journey, Stephen shares, “These experiences have allowed me to develop a broad understanding of education, direct patient care, healthcare administration, and workforce preparation.”

Today, as Campus Director of BTC, Stephen plays a vital role in shaping the student experience. “I oversee daily campus operations, support students and instructors, manage educational and administrative processes, and help ensure our programs provide students with the knowledge, skills, and professional development needed to begin healthcare careers.” Through his guidance, Boardman Training Center continues to provide quality, career-focused training that prepares students for meaningful and rewarding careers.

Supporting Students

I support students in many areas throughout their educational journey,” he explains, highlighting the wide range of responsibilities that allow him to help guide student success from enrollment through graduation and beyond. “This includes managing educational technology, creating instructional materials and learning resources, and meeting individually with students who need academic or personal support.” In addition to academic guidance, he works closely with students to ensure they have the tools they need to stay on track and feel confident in their progress.

Beyond student services, his daily work also includes behind-the-scenes responsibilities that keep the campus operating efficiently. “I also create educational resources, assist with technology and facility needs, support students with resumes and career preparation, communicate with employers, and respond to unexpected issues that arise throughout the day,” he shares. “No two days are exactly the same, but each day is centered on helping students succeed and keeping the campus running smoothly.” This variety ensures that every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a difference.

Reflecting on what makes the role meaningful, he notes, “My favorite part of working at Boardman Training Center is watching students grow in both skill and confidence.” Seeing students develop from where they start to where they finish is one of the most rewarding aspects of his work. “I enjoy building relationships with students, supporting them through challenges, and celebrating their accomplishments,” he adds. These connections create a supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged, valued, and empowered to reach their goals.

Stephen’s Motivation

“Student success and growth are my greatest sources of motivation,” Stephen shared, emphasizing the deep sense of purpose he finds in helping others achieve their goals. For him, the most rewarding part of his role is witnessing the transformation students undergo throughout their journey.

“I am inspired by watching students overcome challenges, gain confidence, and recognize their own potential,” he explained. Whether students are returning to school after time away, balancing personal responsibilities, or stepping into a completely new field, seeing them push past obstacles and believe in themselves is what drives his passion each day.

When asked what he is most proud of from his time with BTC, he said, “I am most proud of the academic outcomes our students have achieved.” From program completion to career placement, these milestones reflect hard work, determination, and the impact of a supportive learning environment. For him, each student’s achievement is a reminder of why he is committed to fostering growth, opportunity, and long-term success.

“My best advice for potential students is to believe in your ability to grow, even when the process feels challenging,” he shares. Starting a new educational journey can feel intimidating at times, especially when balancing school with work, family, or other responsibilities. However, growth often happens in those very moments when things feel difficult, and persistence becomes the key to moving forward.
