Taylor Esker – Graduate Highlight

Meet Taylor Esker, BTC’s Featured Graduate of the Month!

Taylor Esker is a graduate of Boardman Training Center’s (BTC) EKG program, and we are thrilled to share her experience as a BTC student! Before enrolling at BTC, Taylor had started nursing school at a large college but did not complete the program; instead, she took on the vital role of a stay-at-home mom for her children. Despite her priority being caring for her two sons, she knew that entering the medical field was the career path she wanted to pursue. “I have always wanted to further my education,” she said. “And I decided that BTC was the best option for me.”

The cardiology field has a special place in Taylor’s heart; she says her son was diagnosed with pulmonary valve stenosis as a baby. After spending some time with him in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), she decided she wanted to learn more about the cardiac system and help others. “I decided I wanted to enter the world of cardiology after that.”

Taylor’s motivation for choosing the EKG training program at BTC originates from her personal experience, and her passion for helping others translates into her career. Throughout her education, she has most enjoyed learning about the importance of EKGs and the intricacies of performing them. “BTC provided me with a great education and understanding,” Taylor said.

Boardman Training Center’s EKG Program

Students in BTC’s accelerated 12-week EKG training program can expect to learn valuable skills that they can apply in the healthcare field. EKGs are a significant diagnostic tool that provides essential information on cardiac function, and EKG technicians are trained to perform these tests and understand the results, which can help lead to a patient’s diagnosis.

Not only do EKG technician students learn how to use medical equipment correctly, but they are also trained in distinguishing heart dysrhythmias, identifying abnormal results, and more. Boardman Training Center’s EKG program also prepares students to sit for the National Healthcareer Association’s Certified EKG Technician (CET)* certification exam.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics^, the need for diagnostic medical and cardiovascular technicians is on the rise; the job outlook for this field is expected to grow 11% from 2023 to 2033. Because trained professionals are in high demand in the medical field, now is an excellent time to pursue your education with BTC.

Many EKG technicians work in hospitals or clinics, but their roles may encompass a range of duties. After graduating, Taylor’s goal is to work as a monitor technician, monitoring and reporting on patients’ cardiovascular activity in a hospital.

Taylor’s Next Steps

When asked if she would recommend Boardman Training Center to a friend, Taylor says that she would. Her advice to an incoming student is to prioritize their education by taking the time to study and learn, and not to be afraid to ask for help when needed. The BTC team is here to support each student from the first point of contact through the program, and beyond.

For Taylor, Boardman Training Center has provided the essential foundational skills needed to start the path to her dream career. The skills, knowledge, and certification acquired at BTC have helped Taylor move closer to her goal of becoming a nurse. “It has helped me step into the medical field.”

Taylor says the most rewarding aspect of her time as a BTC student was that the skills she learned will be applied to the medical field and have an impact on real patients’ lives. “In some way, we will be a part of making a difference.”
