Meet Tiaunnah El-Amin
Tiaunnah El-Amin is Boardman Training Center’s (BTC) graduate of the month for August! Tiaunnah graduated from BTC’s Phlebotomy and Medical Assisting Specialist programs. She gained hands-on experience in several essential skills, including administering injections, removing sutures, collecting specimens, performing basic phlebotomy skills, and more.
This training has prepared her to become a member of any healthcare team. In this blog, discover more about Tiaunnah and her path to gaining her National Healthcareer Association certifications* through BTC’s training programs.
Life Before BTC
Before attending Boardman Training Center, Tiaunnah graduated from a four-year institution with a Bachelor of Arts degree. However, she still had to work two jobs to make ends meet.
Tiaunnah decided it was time for a change. She first enrolled in the phlebotomy training. She enjoyed the program, saying, “I really loved the program and the teacher who taught me.” Upon graduating from the Phlebotomy program, she wanted to continue her great experience by enrolling in the medical assisting training program as well. She chose the Medical Assisting Specialist program because she believed it would be the ideal certification to complement her phlebotomy certification.
Tiaunnah’s BTC Experience
Tiaunnah thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of her experience at BTC, from the quality of the education to the hands-on training. However, if she had to choose one thing that truly made her time at BTC exceptional, it would be the welcoming and supportive environment. “The staff are friendly and always willing to help,” she said.
When asked about her favorite class during her time at BTC, she shared her enthusiasm for phlebotomy. For her, phlebotomy stood out not just for the technical knowledge she gained, but for the sense of community and teamwork. “My favorite class is phlebotomy because the students and teacher were great. Everyone was willing to help each other out.” The supportive and collaborative environment made learning not only easier but also enjoyable. The hands-on nature of the class, combined with the encouragement from both her peers and instructor, helped build her confidence and skills.
What’s Next?
After graduating from both the phlebotomy and medical assisting training programs, Tiaunnah said, “I would like to work in either a lab or a hospital.” Her dream job, though, is “to work in a lab setting,” because BTC gave her the knowledge and confidence to apply for that type of job.
In five years, Tiaunnah wants to “build up on my certifications, graduate from a master’s program in Counseling, and potentially work as a counselor at the Akron Children’s Hospital.”

Tiaunnah would absolutely recommend Boardman Training Center, “because you can complete the program in a short time and they are flexible with you,” plus, “the instructors are great!” She recommends that anyone looking to start school at BTC “start looking at medical terms, anatomy, and physiology ahead of time.”
