Meet Victoria Kennedy, our graduate highlight feature this week here at Boardman Training Center!
Victoria is a graduate of the Cardio Phlebotomy career training program at BTC. While enrolled in this exciting program, Victoria practiced essential hands-on skills that she will use in her healthcare career, including drawing blood, performing EKGs, and practicing fundamental patient care.
“I want to help people feel better and I don’t have a problem with needles or blood,” said Victoria when asked why she chose the Cardio Phlebotomy healthcare training program.
Before attending healthcare classes at Boardman Training Center, Victoria attended college at a traditional university and dropped out her first semester. She says it was very hard trying to learn while taking math, science, opera, and more right away. Victoria was also working at FedEx Ground as a full-time employee.
When asked why she chose Boardman Training Center to prepare for a career in healthcare, Victoria said, “It’s a hands-on school that offered what I wanted to do. They don’t charge a lot for classes and the classes are small enough to get one-on-one learning.”
In addition to the hands-on training Victoria received while completing her classes, she also prepared for professional healthcare certifications that are valued by employers, including the Certified Phlebotomy Technician* and Certified EKG Technician* certifications.
These certifications help show employers that you know how to perform job tasks to a high-quality standard, which can give you a competitive advantage over non-certified candidates when applying for jobs.
When asked about her favorite part of attending Boardman Training Center, Victoria says it’s “the people I met in class who are now great friends and the teachers who will do anything to help you succeed.”
While attending the Cardio Phlebotomy program, Victoria says her favorite class was phlebotomy with Elyse. “It’s my favorite because it’s hands-on and Elyse is very understanding with everything going on. She will make jokes with the class to help with nerves and keep the environment light and fun.”
After graduation, Victoria hopes to get a job in the medical field as a phlebotomist. She would like to work a Monday to Friday job making a decent amount of money.
In five years, Victoria would like to have a stable job, a nice house, and a new car.
When asked if she would refer Boardman Training Center to a friend, Victoria says, “Yes, I would refer BTC to anyone who asked about it. It’s a nice environment, not a lot of money, and it doesn’t take years to get certified.”
